OFFERTORY BASKETS
When coming to Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart people are encouraged to bring food (dry and canned goods) to share with the poor of the neighborhood. At the Offertory Procession members of the congregation are invited to carry the food in baskets and place it before the old high altar. The bread and wine are borne to the new altar of the Mass.
After the offertory prayers, the Presider blesses the bread and wine and the food for the poor in one circle of incense. Once a month the food is shared with the poor with the hope that God will multiply it blessing those who receive it and those who have given it.
