The Sunday Liturgy is the core and pinnacle of our parish activity. Almost
every activity of the parish could be done by some other agency, except the
Sunday Eucharist. The people of Sacred Heart are never urged to be
at Mass but to do the Mass for the
sake of the whole world. The people are encouraged to use their hearts more
than their heads and enter deeply into the ritual.
In an age that is too often governed by the hard facts of practicality and
isolation from the nourishment of the natural world, we strive to do our sacred
ritual with loving care and bring the seasons into church both liturgically
and naturally and celebrate them with joy and enthusiasm.
Hospitality
In a world where gathering places are often too big and too impersonal, where
welcome and acknowledgment are seldom experienced, a church on Sunday must
above all be a place of hospitality. We need touches of the hospitality of
God's heaven, expressed in every face and gesture. At Sacred Heart, we try
to make our church at least as friendly as an Irish pub, where equality, acknowledgment,
and friendship are the happy responsibility of everyone.
Liturgy Leads to Justice
One of the fundamental principles of Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart is that Liturgy
leads to Justice. If we "break open" the Gospels, we are empowered
to proclaim the Good News in words that call for actions of justice. If we
Break the Bread on Sunday, we are empowered and are called to share bread
on Monday and every other day. Then all of our service, all of our ministries
for justice and peace flow from the Sunday Eucharist and are sustained by
it.
