Litany Singers (Prayer of The Faithful)

In the Guidelines for Participation in Sacred Heart's Sunday Liturgy, the ministry of The Litany Singer is succinctly outlined in this way:

Simultaneously with the bearing and offering of the gifts at Mass, the prayers of the faithful people are lifted up to God. Nowhere in the celebration are the individual needs of the congregation and the universal needs of humanity more clearly presented than in the Prayer of the Faithful. It is a plea for the living and the dead in a loving chant to God. Creation as a whole rises in gratitude and confidence before its Creator.

The names of the sick, the needy, and those who have gone before us, and those celebrating special events to be thankful for and mindful of in prayer are collected by the Litany Singer in the back of church during the gathering time.

It is then the joyful ministry of the Litany Singer to enunciate the needs, desires and dreams of a faithful, praying people in plaintive, loving chant. The prayers of those gathered are offered to our listening God... "On behalf of all and for all...to You O Lord."
